like my heart= empty,
drained- the last Frappuccino-
how could you take it?

A Protest Poem For Anna
A felted, hand-crocheted cozy snuggles my Starbucks cup.
Does this make the product less corporate?
Save the indies from being bought up?
The yarn is smooth as cream in my hand as I take another sip
Of a drink worth what the barista earns per hour
Minus tip.
So in this season of parties and gifts
Though no one wants to feel alone;
Remember sometimes revolution- like charity- starts at home.
Yes, wean yourself from the Big Green Mother
And soothe your jones at home.
I’m Writing This To Say
I took your
J Crew sweater.
I let myself in with
The key I thought
I returned.
I guess you were
At Starbucks when I opened
The door
Sun shining on your favorite
Blue pen and the very gray sweater.
(Forgotten like the key?)
Forgive me.
Your sweater was
So warm and
So nearly invisible
Just the way
I wanted to feel this morning.
[For A.B. with much thanks.]
Black Coffee
Cafe Latte is like my homework-
Homework that is undone
Homework that will never be done
Homework that even my teachers have forgotten.
I leave a trail of homework/sorrow behind me
Like a fresh cup of Starbucks lingers
On the air of a winter morning.
The cream diminishes the darkness
Of the coffee;
How much milk would it take
To make all my homework disappear?
