Glossy blackbirds gobbling
Even brighter scarlet berries.
They hop from bush to bush
Until- too drunk to drag themselves
Around- they take to the sky.

A Blue Bird Found My Heart

A blue bird found my heart
Deflated by your leaving,
Caught by its string in a tree.
It hadn’t flown very far.
He used it to make a colorful nest;
And I, this poem.

For Ray (Birds Of A Feather)

Ruined feathers catch more glitter-
Raining from the trees like chocolate-
Other birds on higher branches,
Birds that thrill the skies with color,
Shake the glory from their feathers,
Miraculous feathers that lift them high
Above sad birds on lower branches
Begging for a bit of reflected glamour
Birds that fill the nights with their cries
Waiting to move toward a pre-determined dawn.

(A birthday poem for my friend @RayOnativia. And no, it doesn’t have some deep meaning. I began with some phrases from http://www.writingfix.com and followed where they led.)

Seeking Consensus

A caucus of sea birds flies over
Lobbying for and debating
The flying order of the day.

Black Swans

They mate for life. Or
do wings clipped so close preclude
soaring through new skies?

Road Noise

Swish of cars passing on the street
Squadron of geese arriving from the North
A can of RockStar hisses open
Ricercar del sesto tuono
Tick tick tick of a turn signal
Seagulls and running boys screaming on wet grass
