Rain

sometimes it comes on so fierce
and so fast it’s hard
to believe it’s falling from
the same sky that showed
us sun and white clouds moments
ago; there’s no time
to put car windows up or
take down drying yarn
before the rain sweeps in: all
you can do is run
for shelter, make some coffee,
listen to the rain
hitting the windows like hand
fulls of gravel, watch
it batter the already
stormworn flag whipping
above the green house next door

Fog

The fog crept in on little cat feet.
It circled the house once twice thrice.
It curled itself around the nice cool base of the toilet.
It considered the cars, the ships, the men with broad shoulders, the corn-fed daughters of the soil and the many other things it had consumed and taken as part of itself.
The fog rejoiced in its vocation, delicately licked a paw, flicked a whisker and went to sleep.

Song

Find a house and make it your own,
Adding the things that make it right:
Skylights so the sun shines down,
Filling rooms with morning light.
Hyacinths, Tiger Lilies too
Plant lots of them because for you
Seeing their beauty’s the greater part
Of the joy that always fills your heart
When another day ends and you’re home.
