Nobody Makes It From Here

I had a dream when I was just a little girl
I’d take the music scene by storm;
They’d sing my songs around the world.
I’d be the greatest of the stars;
I could hear the guitars ring.
I don’t dream that any more.
Nobody makes it from here.

Chorus:
Nobody makes it from here.
I guess someone should have told you.
I’m so sorry, my dear.
Just put those girlish dreams behind you.
Nobody makes it from here.
You should have tried when you were younger.
You’d best be happy as you are
Because
Nobody makes it from here.

I had a dream about a house upon a hill.
I’d have a husband and a home
And we’d fill the rooms with laughter.
But now my man is gone;
He doesn’t love me any more.
The house is dark and I’m alone.
Nobody makes it from here.
